Re-Elect Margaret Lorber
school board -- District B

Picture
Endorsed by the Alexandria Times, November 1, 2018:

"Lorber is one of the most impressive incumbents on either council or the school board, and her experience in bilingual and special education -- two areas where ACPS most needs improvement --is especially helpful"

The job of the school board is to promote academic success by providing resources, programs, leadership and oversight for our school system.  During my 3 years on the board we have:

  • Secured increased funding to educate our growing student  population
  • Hired a new superintendent with the experience, vision and commitment to provide enduring leadership
  • Promoted academic achievement through innovative programs, such as the International Academy, and expanded family support, helping close the achievement gap
  • Supported teachers and staff with increased salaries and benefits
  • Increased capacity by approving two new schools and improving maintenance
  • Empowered families through an ACPS program to engage and train parents that has gained wide recognition
  • Advanced equity through expanded programs to reduce suspensions and expulsions and robust anti-bullying and anti-discrimination policies

Why I'm running for re-election:

I'm proud of what we've accomplished. There's more work to be done. We need to:

  • Collaborate with City Council to secure resources to meet students’ needs
  • Oversee the opening of two new elementary schools
  • Find immediate solutions to overcrowding while we plan and construct new schools
  • Provide competitive compensation for teachers and all staff
  • Improve services for students with special needs and talents;
  • Ensure the success of our new Superintendent;

A Great Kickoff!
